Spotted a few new models that have recently been drafted into yellow cab service here in the Big Apple. First up is the Impala!
Say what you will about the new Impala, but I think it makes a really awesome-looking taxi. Something about the yellow paint and black wheels - they're not steelies, but they're the next best thing. This is a much more worthy successor to the Crown Vic than the Taurus IMO.
There's something about the back end that gives me a pleasing feeling of nostalgia - in regular car colors it's kind of plain, but in taxi yellow it's a nice throwback to the big, rugged sedans of the 70s and 80s that used to ply these roads.
Next up is the Pathfinder!
Much as we might mourn the death of the old, rugged Pathfinder, I'm sure the crossoverized version makes a great taxi as well. Its mid-pushing-full size is big enough to scare people and pedal cabs out of the way, and I'd bet that third row of seats is removed, meaning gobs and gobs o' cargo space for suitcases or groceries or dead bodies.

Love the way the Impala looks, reminds me of the old beached whale Caprices. It would be a great successor to the Crown Victoria.
I absolutely hate that horrid Nissan van taxi and the Pathfinder.
They should keep a fleet of Crown Vics for nostalgic purposes.

This could be the impalas new tagline
Say what you will about the new Impala, but I think it makes a really awesome-looking taxi.
The 2014 Chevrolet Impala - A really awesome-looking taxi for the modern era.
They will just fly off the dealer lots.
Also those are steel wheels so I guess you could call them steelies.

The CVT in that Pathfinder is going to last about 30k miles before it shits the bed.

But not steelies like these:

Considering the way taxi drivers stomp on it, I'd say less.

most of the hybrid taxis in San Francisco (Prius, altima hybrid, camry hybrid) have CVT's and they don't break every 30k miles. San Francisco might not have traffic 24/7 like new york, buy New york doesn't have steep hills in every neighborhood

The Prius doesn't actually have a CVT, at least not in the way that most people think of a CVT.
